Assignment 1 – Redesigning logos (10%)
You are to redesign, using Illustrator only, a known international or foreign logo and customise it to fit local culture or local settings.

In other words, you are to re create a company logo to fit the localise conditions. For example, the company Shell, a Dutch company, designed the oil company logo based on their national colours. What if you were to redesign it based on local national colours or local meaning of the word shell and so on. There will be a list of international / foreign logos for you to choose from listed in the blog above. Please only use those logos.

Requirements

1) Ideation must first be drawn. In other words, you are to draw your idea on paper first prior doing it in Illustrator. The process of ideation to final output must be documented on a blog or web log that all students must create.

2) The logo should be based on a known international / foreign logo. You need not follow the original shape of the original logo. You can change it just as long they have meaning in the local context. However, you are NOT allowed to change the name of the original company and its core business.

For example, if you choose Burger King logo, you can change the Shape and colour to fit local culture but you cannot change the name of the company to Raja Burger.

3) The logo should be in colour. The colour should have meaning to the logo based on local culture and local meaning.

4) Size of the symbol – A4 and Printout the symbol and mount it on an A3 mounting board.

5) The other side of the mounting board must contain a write-up page. The write-up page must contain - the title of the logo, the meaning of the logo in local or cultural context, the meaning of the shape and the meaning of the colour and the relation to what the company represents.

6) Include your name, ID and group at the back of the mounting board.

Part II - Documentation to be done on the BLOG

(1) Include the RESEARCH you have done on the company of choice (add the web links). Select the international company and show their current logo. Only logos made from shapes not text.

(2) Include the idea of the new logo, its new meaning and so on based on local culture. This could be similar to the write-up.

(3) Include designs, sketches, references or images that you use to create your logo, tools that you used and the final output.
(4) Tools used. You are to EXPLAIN the tools that you used and learnt from the tutorials and EXPLORED.

Submission:

Students must submit the Illustrator file and title it studID_logo.ai. Date of Submission: Week 6 in tutorials to tutorial Group Leader. The student name, ID and Group must also appear inside the document.

Marks will be deducted if you do not enter your name, group and ID properly. Marks will also be deducted if there are no name, ID and group.

All class submission guidelines must be followed. Not following these requirements will mean a reduction in your marks in this exercise.

Any copying or similar logo may result in the students getting an automatic "0" mark.

No blog entries or limited blog entries may result in deduction of marks or may result in an overall mark of 0 for the assignment. So please follow the requirements listed above.
